On November 13th, 2020, there was another introductory online meeting of participants of UniCEN project "Advancing Institutional Capacity for Sustainable Groundwater in Central Asia with emphasis on Karakalpakstan, a former Aral Sea Region in Uzbekistan".
The meeting was attended by Daniel Snow, project manager and his colleagues from University of Nebraska, USA; representatives from Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers, Tashkent, Uzbekistan; from Karakalpak State University, Uzbekistan Nukus; and from M.Kh.Dulaty Taraz Regional University Koibakov S.M., project co-leader; Sagintaev Zh.; Rakhimova Yu.S, project coordinator, and Ibragimov M.F., translator.
Project objectives (June 2020-July 2021) are: to identify agricultural areas with potential for reclamation; to explore innovative models and tools for water resources management, water quality monitoring and reuse, and new techniques for remote sensing and land use under irrigated agriculture; to generate new knowledge through curriculum development at multiple institutions; to establish scholar exchanges. During the meeting, a number of items were discussed, including a workplan and presentations at subsequent seminars-conferences with the invitation of international guests. The next meeting is scheduled for December, 2020.
