STRENGTHENING INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN ECOLOGY AND WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

A productive meeting was held at Dulaty University between Rector Mr. Mukhtar Baizhumanov and international experts: Professor Daniel Snow, Director of the Nebraska Water Sciences Laboratory, Associate Professor Saleh Taghvaeian, Irrigation and Water Resources Specialist at the University of Nebraska, Ms. Anna Palto, Head of the Irrigation Department at Eurasia Group Kazakhstan.

The meeting focused on key areas of collaboration, including teaching, research, sustainable water management, agrotechnologies, and Participatory Science — an approach that involves citizens in scientific processes.

Dulaty University is actively engaged in international projects with U.S. partners aimed at advancing environmental science and introducing practical, solution-oriented approaches. The university serves as a coordinator in several important initiatives implemented in cooperation with American universities and international foundations.

As part of this collaboration, a workshop was held for the academic staff of Dulaty University, with participation from faculty of other Kazakhstani universities. Speakers from the University of Nebraska shared their expertise in the Extension model — a system of university outreach and engagement with local communities — and presented successful case studies on involving youth and citizens in sustainability and environmental monitoring.

These joint efforts represent a significant contribution to the development of applied science, international academic partnerships, and the promotion of scientific literacy in the region.
