From February 18 to February 20, 2026, Guldana Samatovna Yerkebayeva, a teacher of the Department of Journalism and Philology, together with students of the 6B03212 - Convergent Journalism educational program, took part in the XIII International Winter School on Journalism and Communication, dedicated to World Radio Day, proclaimed by UNESCO.
The school was attended by students, undergraduates, PhD students, teachers and representatives of the media sphere from Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan. The event has become an authoritative international scientific and practical platform for discussing current trends in the development of modern journalism. The opening ceremony took place on February 18 in the UN Plaza conference hall (Almaty). The moderator was Professor Gulmira Sultanbayeva. Within the framework of the program, scientific publications on the issues of fact-checking, digital and media literacy were presented, which replenished the university library's collection. During the modular sessions, issues of the transformation of journalism in the context of the development of artificial intelligence, media pluralism, digital sovereignty, communication in the social sciences and humanities, as well as the formation of modern professional competencies of a journalist were considered. The participants analyzed practical cases and exchanged experiences with international experts. On February 19, the participants visited the studios of the Shalqar radiosy radio station, where they got acquainted with the editorial processes, the specifics of the preparation of radio programs and modern broadcasting formats. A visit to the Gylym Ordasy complex and specialized museums also took place, which allowed the delegation to expand its professional and cultural horizons. On February 20, panel discussions were held on information and cybersecurity, international communication, the role of artificial intelligence in the media environment and the prospects for the development of journalism in the context of digital transformation. The support provided helps to strengthen scientific potential, develop academic mobility and increase the competitiveness of students. Participation in the winter school has become a significant platform for expanding international cooperation, integrating into the global educational space and improving the professional level of future media professionals.
